Hey Mom! School's Out, Now What? Great "To Do" Fun for School Age Kids

For all of you amazing parents out there that are trying to keep your school-age kids engaged this summer.  Camp is great, but it might not be an everyday option for your kids.  They love their devices, but let’s spark their interest in other ways, shall we?

Here are some less common ideas I’ve gathered to help entertain your kids all summer long:

  • Have them create a DIY garden for flowers, produce, or herbs. They will love getting their hands dirty, figuring out how to plant seeds, nurture a garden, and watching it all come to life.
  • Upcycling Crafts -Turn what is old, new again.
  • Set up the mat and engage them in a daily exercise or stretching routine.
  • Photography Challenge – capture something they are grateful for or an interesting scene.
  • Board Game Design – Challenge them to tap into their creativity and design a game with rules, layout, and game pieces.
  • Music Exploration – use an instrument at home or even a music app to create something new.
  • Home Improvement Project – re-decorate their bedroom, etc.
  • A Cooking or Baking Challenge (take photos of finished project and create end of summer photo album).
  • An Entrepreneurial Endeavor – custom bracelets or artwork for friends, etc.
  • Science Fair Project – Put on a science experiment to present at home.  Guide your tween/teen to find their special interest and then research it.

  1. Great ideas! The photography challenge sounds interesting and a good way for children to learn how to take good pictures.
